St Patrick's Day Party Punch Drinks - Green Leprechaun Punch

A St. Patrick's Day party punch will be one of the first things your guests notice, so you want to make sure your punch won't disappoint them. This St. Paddy's Day Leprechaun party punch will be a hit with young or old. This Leprechaun party punch recipe is different from the usual "sherbet and soda" punch recipes, and it is a difference your guests will enjoy. This recipe is for a non-alcoholic punch that can easily be converted with a bottle of one additional ingredient

A nice "extra touch" for your punch is to have a couple theme-shaped ice blocks floating in the punch bowl. Shamrock-shaped ice blocks would look perfect. Use aluminum foil shamrock-shaped cupcake molds that you can find at your local grocery or party supply store. Fill them with water, add a few drops of green food coloring, cover with clear wrap and freeze them. Voila'! green shamrock ice blocks to float in your Leprechaun punch.

Leprechaun St. Paddy's Day Party Punch

Serves approximately 30 - 6oz. cups

Ingredients:

2 ea. - 2-litre bottles Ginger Ale**
60oz. Pineapple juice 2 ea.
12 oz. cans frozen orange juice concentrate*
3 ea. - 3oz. boxes Lime Jello/gelatin mix 21/2 cups sugar

*put the OJ concentrate in the refrigerator instead of the freezer so they will be thawed/softened when you are ready to use them

**put Ginger Ale in the refrigerator to chill

Prep:

Early prep: Mix the boxes of lime Jello mix into a quart of hot water, stir until completely dissolved. Set aside to cool. When cool, add 5 cups cold water, OJ concentrate, and sugar. Stir until well mixed, then refrigerate until time to put out the punch bowl for the party.

Party Prep: Pour the pre-prepped liquid gelatin/OJ in the punch bowl first, and then add the chilled Ginger Ale and pineapple juice, and stir until well mixed. Crushed ice can be added if desired. Add 1 or 2 shamrock ice blocks and it is ready to serve.

And that is all there is to making a great St. Patrick's Day Punch. This St. Paddy's Day Leprechaun party punch will be the hit of your party that your guests will remember all year long. (they will expect more Leprechaun party punch next year too)

In food history one of the most controversial topics is the emperor of all salads, The Caesar. If you have never tossed a classic Caesar salad for your friends then you ought to try it. There is a real technique that makes it so special. While you are rolling instead of tossing the whole Romaine leaves in the wooden bowl to develop the perfect creamy dressing, you may want to mention 2 of the many stories that talk about the first Caesar salad that was ever tossed.

Who Invented the Caesar Salad?

Who Invented the Caesar Salad?

Caesar salad wasn't named after Julius Caesar as some sources say, the evidence to show that is thinner than the garlic slices mob boss Pauly shaved with a razor blade in the movie Goodfellas. The first Caesar was most likely tossed by either Caesar or his brother Alex Cardini.

Who Invented the Caesar Salad?

The brothers both came from Italy after the world war 1 and settled in San Diego, Ca. Caesar ran his own restaurant bearing his name in Tijuana and Alex was chef of a competing restaurant near by. When it burned down he became partners with his brother Caesar and here is where this salad became famous. The Hollywood crowd as well as a famous Duchess frequented Caesar's establishment. Even when Julia Child was a youth her folks took her there and Caesar himself made this salad to whom was one day going to become the queen of the foodies world.

Who Invented the Caesar Salad?

Caesar's daughter Rosa in an interview in 1987 said, her father invented the dish in his restaurant in Tijuana on Fourth of July in 1924. A rush had depleted the kitchen's supplies, so with still customers to be fed, Caesar made do with what he had, adding the dramatic flair of the table-side tossing "by the chef".

Carla Cardini, who is the granddaughter of Alex Cardini, works in fine dining around Houston, gives occasional classes on making this classic salad. She will tell you the original name was Aviator's Salad. Alex Cardini, my grandfather, was a pilot for the Italian Air Force during World War I before he moved to Tijuana to join my great-uncle Caesar. Remember, it was Prohibition, and Tijuana was where people went to party. Caesar's Place, my great-uncle's bar and restaurant, was very popular.

After a long night of drinking and missing curfew, a group of Rockwell Field Air Force pilots woke up at Caesar's, and what Alex made for them for breakfast that morning is what we know today as Caesar Salad. That day he called it the Aviator's Salad in honor of his flying buddies, but as the salad gained popularity with visitors from Southern California they said "Let's go to Caesar's and have that salad" and then just Caesar's salad.

Perhaps the crown should go to the Cardini family for this I am sure their mother is proud of both of them.

Roaring twenties gangster and flapper parties are popular and fun. They are a chance to dress up in glamorous fashion from the 20s, relive the danger and drama of speakeasies and bootlegging, and celebrate an era of new found freedom and excess. But if you want to add even more authenticity to your next gathering; learn some slang from that fabulous decade and mix into your party conversation! Here are a few popular words or phrases from the 20s to get you started.

How to Talk Like a Gangster - Learn 1920s Slang For Your Next Party!

How to Talk Like a Gangster - Learn 1920s Slang For Your Next Party!

1. Bee's knees - Refers to a really great person, thing, idea, etc. Where as today you might say something is super cool, back then it was the bee's knees. Example party usage: Wow! Your flapper dress is the bee's knees!

2. And how - Means that you strongly agree with something. Like when someone says that your onion dip is delicious, you could reaffirm that statement with an enthusiastic "and how!"

3. Don't take any wooden nickels - A phrase used as advice not to do anything dumb. For instance, if one of your friends says they're thinking of challenging others at the party to a moonshine drinking contest, "don't take any wooden nickels" would be an appropriate response. Then be sure to translate and tell them in plain, modern English that they really should NOT do that!

4. Hooch - Another word for bootleg liquor. Even though Prohibition is no longer in effect, you can get into the spirit of your roaring twenties party when you offer your guests some hooch! The good news is you don't have to actually serve bad, home brewed beer because if you're of age it is legal to just go buy some good stuff.

5. You slay me - Something you'd say when you find something funny. Of course when you find something funny, you can just laugh to indicate that you are amused. But at a gangster party, you have the perfect excuse to follow up your laughter with the cool line, "you slay me!" No one should waste an opportunity like that!

6. Spifflicated - In other words, drunk. Have fun with the guests who've had a few too many and try and get them to say that they're spifflicated! This alone is sure to provide some interesting entertainment.

7. Juice joint - This was another name for a speakeasy. A speakeasy, of course, was an establishment that illegally sold liquor during Prohibition. When hosting a gangster party it's fun to pretend that your party is taking place in a juice joint.

8. Glad rags - This refers to dressy clothes fit for a night on the town. When you invite people to attend your roaring twenties party, make sure to tell them to have their glad rags on when they come.

Whether you are planning an outdoor event or just doing a bathroom remodel at your home, you may find yourself in need of a portable restroom. These devices can be lifesavers in either situation. But you will certainly want to find out how much the rental costs to rent before you can get one.

How Much Does a Portable Restroom Cost to Rent?

How Much Does a Portable Restroom Cost to Rent?

The first thing you should know is that a portable restroom does not have to mean the simple small structure you may be familiar with from construction sites. While you can certainly get that type of portable restroom if it will meet your needs, you have more options. Restroom trailers are available that resemble a regular public restroom on the inside, with several stalls and sinks for hand washing. Some restroom trailers are actually very elegant, with upscale fixtures and plenty of room. Certain restroom rental companies may even offer you the option of hiring a restroom attendant.

Once you decide what type of portable toilet will fulfill your needs, you will need to shop around. Prices may vary widely by region and company. Generally, you should expect to pay at least 0 a day to rent a basic, construction site type portable restroom, with prices going up from there. When calling around for price quotes, be sure to ask if delivery, setup, and removal are included in your quoted rental price.

This will help you to accurately compare quotes from several companies. Your distance from the company will likely play a role in whether delivery, setup, and removal are included or cost extra, so check the distance with an online map service. This will give you an accurate mileage that you can provide to the company. Also inquire about rates for longer term rentals, as you may get a deal when renting that way.

A portable toilet can be a great solution for any event you may be planning or any project or emergency that limits or prevents the use of your home bathroom. If you take the time to choose wisely and shop around, you'll be glad you decided to rent one!

Glass items utilized in tableware settings are usually classified as "glassware" and are used to describe the drinking vessels of a table setting. Additionally, the terminology is used to describe objects manufactured from glass. In the catering industry, glassware usually refers to any drinking vessel, even if it is made from plastic materials such as polycarbonate or polystyrene.

Different Types of Glassware

Whether a person chooses to mix different types of glassware or purchase matching sets is purely a matter of individual taste. Either way, there is no hard and fast rule about mixing or not mixing glassware in your collection. Depending on the types of drinks and foods you are planning to serve, there is glassware available for every occasion. Being aware of the each type of glassware that you need is paramount when selecting the type of glassware you want for your table.

Glassware Market Trends

Just like any other consumer industry, there are certain market trends to be aware of in the glassware industry as well. Currently, the following 4 trends are apparent:

* Cocktail glasses, whether they are the classic version or vintage cocktail shakers, are gaining in popularity again. These are used to create ambiance and add a sense of glamour that makes enjoying a drink more like a festive event or occasion.

* Cut crystal manufactured in the 1930's continues to be an excellent purchase for collectors. It is not uncommon to find sets in styles similar to the modern day collections. Due to the fact that it is more often second-hand quality rather than antique, you won't have the overly inflated price tag that is attached to antique glassware.

* Mixing more modern styles the older types is an increasingly popular trend. For instance, the industry has witnessed an increase in the buying of champagne bowls, both the more modern ones and those manufactured in the 1950's. People would normally only buy champagne flutes in the past.

* Huge red wine glasses that were prevalent everywhere several years back are no longer as popular as they once were. People are beginning to realize that they can finish a bottle of expensive champagne or wine by filling a couple of these. Additionally, the amount of alcohol an individual can consume without being affected also comes into consideration. Smaller glasses are gaining in popularity once again.

Common Types of Glassware

Although there are several schools of thought about the different categories of glassware, the following is a list of the 7 most common categories in the industry today:

Beer glassware
Coffee mugs
Drinking glasses
Shot glasses
Stemware
Tumblers
Wine glasses

Finally, be aware of the fact that not all glassware is dishwasher safe and should only be hand washed in order to care for it properly.

St Patrick's Day Punch Drinks - 2 Great St Patty's Day Party Punches

A St. Patrick's Day party just isn't complete without a great party punch to serve your guests. You have made sure all your St. Patrick's Day decorations and party supplies are ready. You are all set with a great selection of snacks and hors d' oeuvres, and of course the green beer. But now you need just-the-right St. Patrick's Day punch to add that final Irish touch. These two party punch recipes will get rave reviews from your guests, you just have to decide which one to use. (Or maybe both)

The preparation of these punches can be as simple as mixing them 20 minutes before your guests arrive, to the rainbow punch which requires some ahead-of-time prep. So be sure to consider this when choosing the right punch for your party.

Note: Although none of these recipes call for an ice block, it would be a nice "extra touch" to have 1 or 2 theme shaped ice blocks floating in the punch bowl. You can easily find aluminum foil shamrock-shaped cupcake molds at your local grocery or party supply store. Fill them with water, then add a few drops of green food coloring, pop them in your freezer, and voila' you will have green shamrock ice blocks.

*These non-alcoholic punch recipes may be converted with 1 bottle of one additional ingrdient.

Traditional St. Paddy's Day Party Punch

Prep time: easy - just 15 minutes, anytime before your guests arrive

Serves approximately 24 guests (50 - 4oz. cups)

Ingredients:

2 ea. - 2-litre bottles of any lemon-lime flavor soda

2 ea. - 12oz. cans frozen lemonade concentrate*

2 ea. - 12 oz. cans frozen limeade concentrate*

2 ea. - Qts. Lime Sherbet*

*put these items in the refrigerator instead of the freezer so they will be thawed/softened when you are ready to use them

Pour all ingredients into a large pot and mix until thoroughly blended. Fill punch bowl approximately 1/3 full with crushed ice, then add blended punch and serve.

Pot-o-Gold Rainbow Party Punch

Prep time: 4 hours before party for rainbows, 15 minutes just before guests arrive to mix all ingredients.

Serves approximately 24 guests (50 - 4oz. cups)

Ingredients:

3 ea. - 2-litre bottles of 7-Up

2 ea. - 12oz. cans frozen lemonade concentrate*

2 ea. - Qts. Rainbow sherbet*

*put both cans concentrate and I qt. sherbet in the refrigerator instead of the freezer so they will be thawed/softened when you are ready to use them

Floating Rainbow prep: Using a large, sharp, serrated knife, and one round quart container of rainbow sherbet, slice 4 slabs, about 1 ½" thick. Don't bother taking sherbet out of carton, slice through carton and all.

Lay each slab flat and cut in half so you end up with 2 half-moon pieces, Use a round cookie cutter or beverage glass to press out the center of each half-moon piece so you are left with rainbow shapes.

Remove the carton pieces now, wrap the rainbow-shaped pieces in clear wrap and put in the freezer so they can freeze solidly until you need them. Put any leftover sherbet in refrigerator to thaw/soften for later use.

Party prep: Put all ingredients, (except frozen rainbow pieces), and approximately 1 tray of ice cubes, in a large pot and mix until well blended. Ice cubes should melt during mixing, or shortly there after. Pour blended mix into your punch bowl, and just before guests arrive add 1 or 2 of the frozen rainbow sherbet rainbows. (they will float on top like ice blocks)

Either one of these out-of-the-ordinary St. Patrick's Day party punches will be a smash hit with your guests, you just have to decide which one to use.

From its beginnings in the Minoan Civilization to the age of Hellenistic art, Ancient Greek art remains an important time period in the advancement of artistic techniques and approaches. Each new century brought profound changes to the Egyptian art that preceded it. From the Bronze Age to the birth of the Roman Empire, Greece dominated the art world, and its influence continues to the present day.

A Brief History of Ancient Greek Art

The earliest Greek art, indeed in Europe, dates back to the Bronze Age. On the small Aegean island of Crete (now a part of Greece), the Minoan Civilization developed, roughly in parallel with that of Ancient Egypt. For example, Minoan art relied on a schematic style (repetition of human figures, for example) that was commonly found in Egyptian art as well. Art was comprised of carvings and painted pottery until 1500 BC, when what is frequently called the "Palace Period" emerged, and wall painting first appeared in Europe, although only fragments survive today.

A Brief History of Ancient Greek Art Specifications

ItemSpecifications
A Brief History of Ancient Greek Art

Unlike Egyptian art, however, Minoan art reveals a naturalism and subtlety not seen in the art of Egypt. Their seafaring orientation lent a natural subject matter, which is reflected in Minoan painting. "Frescoe with Dolphins" (1500-1450 BC) that today still hangs in the remains of the Palace of Knossos, Crete, shows an amazing knowledge of the oceans and sea animals, like the dolphins.

Another fragmentary painting that remains from the Minoan Civilization is "Toreador Fresco" (1500 BC). Encapsulated in this artwork is one of the recurring themes of Minoan culture and art, bull jumping. Thought in some way to be connected to Minoan religious practices, the painting depicts 3 acrobats leaping over the horns of a bull. The fresco is most unusual in that it depicts a time lapse sequence, in which we see the acrobats grabbing the bull's horns, then another mid-vault, and the final acrobat landing with arms outstretched.

Mycenaean Art

Succeeding the Minoan Civilization, on mainland Greece, the Bronze Age Mycenaean Civilization was in full flower. Its history and legends were captured by Homer in his epic poems, "Iliad" and the "Odyssey," which reflect the end of the Mycenaean period ("the heroic age"). One of the most enduring artworks from the time is a "Funeral Mask" (1500 BC) thought to be that of King Agamemnon, who led the Greeks to victory in the Trojan Wars. All that is truly known is that the golden death mask is from a royal tomb.

Fragments of Mycenaean paintings were found at two sites: Tiryns and Pylos, with scenes from everyday life. In contrast to Minoan art, Mycenaean was much more serious in nature. The Mycenaean Civilization collapsed around 1100 BC, marking the end of the Bronze Age and the end of pre-history (that is, the period of history before written records existed). By 650 BC, Greece had emerged as Europe's most advanced civilization.

Emergence of Greek Pottery

Following the Minoan and Mycenaean Civilizations, a record of painting is nearly lost in Greek art. Where the Egyptians, Minoans, and Mycenaeans used frescoes, later Greeks painted on wooden panels that disintegrated over time, and the main artistic record is instead found in pottery remains. Pottery always served a specific use (storage jars, drinking vessels, containers for perfume, and so on). On this pottery, a new trend was foreshadowed: the Greek fixation on the human figure, something that would become a central motif of Ancient Greek art.

Exekias, one of the most famous known potters, signed at least two of his works (black figure pots) that remain to this day. His most famous, "Dyonysos in His Boat" (540 BC) is important not only because of its perfect balance, but also because it signals the new direction that representation would take--away from symbols to a style that shows the world more as it actually is.

Another change in the development of pottery can be seen in the "red figure" technique, in which human images were not painted but instead formed when a black background was applied around them, letting the red clay show through. "Pallas Athena" (480 BC) and "The End of the Party" (490 BC) are two important examples of this style.

Portraying the Human Form

The focus on the human figure is first seen in Greek pottery and later in sculpture. The portrayal of the human body by the Greeks in their artwork had a direct impact on its inclusion and development in Roman art, and later in Western art in general. The early Greek statues, such as "Kouros" (late 6th century BC) were based on the Egyptian grid system. Gradually the lines of the body lost their stiffness--as seen in "Kritios Boy" (480 BC)--and eventually emerge into sculptures that capture the musculature of a natural human form, as in "Discus Thrower" (450 BC).

Etruscan Painting

With the expansion of the Ancient Greek Civilization came a new artistic development, found on the Italian peninsula in the 8th century BC. Influenced by Greek artistic changes, yet uniquely its own, the Etruscan style was greatly admired by the Greeks. Early Etruscan art was typified by wall painting, and an important example remains in the "Tomb of the Leopards" (470 BC) at Tarquinia. The mural shows a joyful group of revelers, drinking and playing instruments.

Much of Etruscan work, however, had a sinister edge, fixated on the fleeting nature of life. In "Mourning Women" (late 5th century BC), a fresco from a tomb at Rivo di Puglia, the scene depicts brightly colored mourners who lament the inescapable advance of time.

Classical Period

The most important painter of the Classical Period of Ancient Greek art (475-450 BC) was Polyanotos, yet none of his work remains. We know of his most famous painting "Discus Thrower" only from the writings of ancient Greeks. The most important surviving painting from the 4th century BC is "The Rape of Persephone" (340 BC), which is located in a tomb complex that also contained the remains of Philip II of Macedon.

Full of richness and life, this naturalistic painting is the explanation by the Greeks of seasons. Persephone is the daughter of Demeter, goddess of fertility, who is carried off to the underworld and will re-emerge as Spring.

Hellenistic Art

Following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, the rise of the city-state emerged, and so did Hellenistic art in Ancient Greece. Alexander's cosmopolitan influence had already taken place and was flourishing through a mix of Eastern and Western styles. Hellenistic culture prevailed in the region until well after the Roman Empire took hold.

The Eastern influence meant a blossoming of art for its own sake, with more decorative embellishment, and religion relegated to the background. In place of religious subjects, art focused instead on gardens, still life, portraiture, and capturing the daily life of Greeks. The art was also much more widespread. Paintings could be found in barbers' and cobblers' shops as well as palaces (as recorded in ancient writings).

Art during the Hellenistic age was also more focused on "truth," even when this meant the depiction of violent, dramatic scenes. The definitive example of this philosophy can be seen in "Laocoon and His Two Sons" (1st century AD), a sculpture that depicts a horrifying scene. Taken from Virgil's "Aeneid," the sculpture depicts a Trojan priest and his two sons in the process of being strangled by sea monsters, a revenge from the gods.

Rediscovered in 1506, the sculpture had an important effect on Renaissance artists, such as Michelangelo, who called "Laocoon and His Two Sons" a "singular miracle of art." The sculpture's influence continued, and El Greco later painted three works based on the Laocoon story as well.

The celebrations continued annually and were soon incorporated with the agricultural show held around the same time and from this beginning has grown the Oktoberfest we have today.
